Tissue Grossing
Performed by our skilled technicians, tissue grossing involves the precise examination, dissection, and documentation of animal tissues. This initial step ensures that significant tissues and lesions are identified and adequately prepared for detailed histological examination. Our process includes a thorough gross inspection, precise trimming, and proper orientation of the tissue samples, all aimed at producing high-quality tissue slides for further research. For rats and mice, the Reni organ sampling and trimming procedure is conducted at Wax-it unless otherwise specified by the client.
Tissue Processing
At Wax-it, we handle tissue processing for paraffin, frozen, and resin-based samples. Our tissue processing techniques are designed to achieve high-quality sections ideal for microscopic examination. Paraffin processing involves dehydration and clearing with xylene, followed by infiltration with liquid paraffin. For frozen samples, we use sucrose for cryoprotection to minimize ice crystal formation. Resin samples undergo a similar dehydration process, followed by resin infiltration and polymerization to create a hard plastic block suitable for sectioning of hard tissues, soft tissues and complex structures in medical devices.
Tissue Embedding
Our embedding process integrates biological tissues into a solid medium like paraffin, frozen or resin medium. This technique provides the necessary structural support for the tissue, facilitating the production of thin, precise sections for detailed microscopic analysis.
Tissue Sectioning/Microtomy
Our technicians excel in sectioning embedded tissue samples to deliver high-quality slides for advanced therapeutic studies. We offer routine paraffin and cryo-sectioning, semi thin resin sectioning, cut & grind services for medical devices and metal implants. The sectioning process is pivotal in our lab, allowing for comprehensive analysis through subsequent staining techniques.
